New Jersey Fishing reportsWeather wise, there's no place but up to go from here. Both air and water temperatures remain below normal for this time of year. For those who overlook mother nature, fish are there to be taken. Party boats out of Belmar are reporting limit catches of bass with some Porgies being mixed in. The latter must be released until July 1st. Boats are also taken Sea Bass with a fair amount of keepers along with some monkfish. Find the birds and you'll find 3 and 4 blues off the beach with an occasional Striper under them. The usual spots are seeing Stripers being chunked in Raritan bay with Flynn's Knoll and Roamer Shoal seeing a fair amount of keepers. Ocean Fluking also seems to be picking up as well as the keeper ratio. Further South, the Spring Run of Weakfish has been a little disappointing. They are being taken by sharpies using soft plastics in Tuckerton but not nearly in the numbers that were seen this time of year in the past. Small blues are being seen just about everywhere with occasional Drums and Stripers being mixed in. Getting pass the annoying snot grass in Brigantine will net you Keeper Bass out of the surf with clams being the bait of choice. If your dead sticking with clams on the beach or back bay make sure their anchored well especially at the tide change. I've been experiencing pole bending hits from Dogfish sharks up to four feet using both clams and bunker chunks in between the skates. Look forward to better conditions in the near future.
