| Despite the bad weather of
the last week, fish continue to show
up for those who are hardy enough to
go after them. The table is set with
fluke, blues and bass from Staten
Island to Montauk. Porgies and
Blackfish are also being taken in the
New York Bight. For those
braving the weather to get on a party
boat out of Sheephead Bay found fluke
cooperating both there as well as
Jamaica Bay and just outside the Coney
Island flats. Reports of bass up
to 20 pounds at the bridges in Jamaica
Bay and Breezy Jetty. In Log Island
Sound you can find Bass and Blues at
the western end and fluke off Sand
City and Smithtown Bay. Reports
of Bass up to 25 pounds being taken in
Cold Spring Harbor. Fluke in 40 feet
of water south of Jones Inlet,
Reynolds Channel, as well are there
with bluefish mixed in. Fire Island is
producing a fair amount of keeper
fluke up to 6 pounds. Blues are
just about everywhere where Moriches
Bay looking like a good spot to start
if that's what your after. The
South end and North Forks of Long
Island have seen doormats with most of
the larger fish in and around Montauk
and the Orient. Weakies are
showing up at Robins Island and the
Peconics. Stripers around
Montauk are seeing a large amount of
keepers for this early in the year.
With a little luck we'll a warm both
in the air and water temperatures to
get things really rolling. It's
been a long, cold winter with no
Spring. One would think it could only
get better because it couldn't be any
worse than this past Memorial Day
weekend.
